Streets of big cities are being cleaned up and decorated for the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.

Phu Binh, the lantern village in HCM City, is busy making colourful lanterns, including traditional star-shaped lanterns and lanterns in animal shapes, to brighten up streets and shop fronts.

Toy stalls are filling Luong Nhu Ngoc Street, with thousands of shoppers looking for gifts for children or posing for photos amid the colourful spectacle.

In Hanoi, street lamps are being decorated and local authorities are promoting small shops that sell traditional toys on Hang Luoc, Hang Ruoi and Hang Chai streets.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the 15th day of the eighth month in the Lunar calendar and is devoted to moon-watching and as a celebration of children. This year it falls on September 27.
