VietNamNet Bridge - Plastic bags, styrofoam boxes, food containers, and dead animals densely covers portions of the beach and riversides in the town of Duong Dong on Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province.


The number of tourists to Phu Quoc - dubbed the "Pearl Island" of Vietnam – has quickly risen. However, pollution has been alarming as rubbish is seen everywhere. Rubbish near the relic site Dinh Cau in Duong Dong town.
 
 

The wharf at the estuary of Duong Dong is flooded with waste. Some families even build toilets, discharging waste directly to the sea.

 

 

Animal carcasses thrown to the sea. "Sometimes the authorities launched a campaign to collect garbage on the island but these campaigns did not help much," a local said.

 

 

 
 

Along with garbage, those who come to the large park in the town's coastline can see the open-cast manholes discharging black water to the sea.
