VietNamNet Bridge - Over the past four years, priest Nguyen Van Tich and volunteers have buried nearly 7,500 abandoned human fetuses in a 200m2 cemetery in Bien Hoa city, Dong Nai province.
Father Nguyen Van Tich in Bien Hoa City said that he built the cemetery in 2011 after visiting a hospital and discovering that fetuses left after abortion were “abandoned” by parents.
The priest and 17 volunteers went to health centers and hospitals in the province to get the fetuses which had been aborted, put them into jars and give them a name before burying in the cemetery.
The priest said: "In the early days, we faced a lot of difficulty because of the suspicion of our purpose but our effort has persuaded people. Each month we bury 200 fetuses."
Tich said the fetuses are buried on the last Sunday of the month.
On the entrance to the cemetery two big rocks are engraved with the sentence "Your parents abandoned you but we didn’t".
This cemetery is located deep in a narrow alley in Ho Nai Ward. It is built on a piece of land donated by some kind-hearted people.
The 10 tombs are nearly 2m long, 60cm wide, enough for burying 2,000 fetuses.
After four years, two of the 10 tombs are full. The third grave is two-thirds filled.
The volunteers take turns to care for the tombs and the cemetery. A little teddy bear is hung at the tombs.
At the cemetery, there is a house that stores the ashes of homeless people.
