VietNamNet Bridge – The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam said it would temporarily shut down the Phu Bai international airport in the eight-month period, from 20/3 to 20/11 to repair the runway.
Mr. Ngo Hoa, Vice Chairman of Thua Thien Hue province has said that the province received the Ministry of Transport’s dispatch on the temporary closure of Phu Bai airport. The airport will be close from 00h01 on 20/3 to 23h59 on 20/11.
On its website, the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam published the guidance document to the Central Region Airport Authority and the Vietnam Airlines Corporation to repair the runway to ensure security, safety and progress.
The airport of Phu Bai with a runway of 2,700 m is now in need of repair. According to the plan, by 2020, Phu Bai International Airport will reach the targeted level of 4E, at peak hours it can receive 20 aircraft and 5 million passengers a year.
This is the 2nd time that the airport is closed. From 13/5 to 13/6, 2012, Phu Bai airport was closed for repairs and upgrades the runway.
