VietNamNet Bridge – The Phu Tho provincial People’s Court on December 19 gave life sentence to seven defendants involved in a ring trafficking 200 heroin cakes (approximately 67kg).
They included Dang Minh Diu, the ring’s leader, Bui Thi Thien, Hoang Van Thanh, Bui Thi Thuy, Dinh Cong Minh, Bui Thi Den and Bui Thi Ten.
The ring’s 14 other members were given 20 years in prison and 13 others got five to 16 years in jail.
According to the indictment, on July 5, 2012, police in the northern midland province of Phu Tho arrested Vu Van Son, 47, in Tam Hong Commune, Yen Lac District, northern Vinh Phuc Province, and Truong Minh Biet, 51, and Dang Thi Bay, 38, both in Tuan Chinh Commune, Vinh Tuong District, Vinh Phuc Province, marketing three cakes of heroin in Bach Hac Ward, Viet Tri City.
Further investigation found that the drug trafficking ring was led by 49-year-old Dang Minh Diu in Tuan Chinh Commune, Vinh Tuong District, Vinh Phuc Province, who confessed that between 2006 and July 5, 2012, she smuggled a total of 200 heroin cakes.
