VietNamNet Bridge Teenager Hoang Quy Phuoc clocked a time of 24.16 seconds to finish first in the boy's 50m freestyle at the Southeast Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Da Nang on Sunday.


Phuoc, 17, beat Singapore's Ching De Jie Joel and Tan You Quing Eugene, who came in second and third.


The Da Nang-born swimmer also broke six records at the event, while his teammates Cao Thi Anh Vien and Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen set three new records in the girls' events.


On the last day of competition, Viet Nam's Duong Thi Thom edged Indonesia's Yessy Yosaputera to win the girl's 15-17 age group 50m backstroke, marking the 14th gold for Viet Nam at the regional junior tournament.


The 17-year-old swam a time of 31.21sec, less than half a second faster than her closest rival.


Overall, Thailand's athletes dominated the tournament, finishing with 48 gold, 48 silver and 45 bronze medals, and claiming 17 out of a total 43 records that were broken at the three-day event.


Singapore ranked second after bagging 14 gold, 21 silver and 30 bronze medals, while Viet Nam trailed in third with 14 gold, 11 silver and 12 bronze medals.


The three-day event attracted 300 swimmers from Brunei, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam.
