Phuong suspended for V.League clash

The match is a six-pointer for both teams as the battle to avoid relegation.

Dong Nai and HAGL are currently propping up the table with 17 points after 22 matches.

However, newly appointed coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan dismissed Phuong's absence.

"I'm not worried because Moussa Sanogo will return from suspension. Hoang Thanh Tung, Le Trung Hieu and Tran Minh Vuong can all play in Phuong's position, and will get a chance to prove themselves," said Tuan.

Thanh enters final round of Football Dreams

Fourteen-year-old boy Do Tan Thanh was the top player in the programme called Football Dreams, which concluded in HCM City on August 25.

With this win, he has entered the world final round to be held in Qatar in January next year.

Thanh will compete with other young international players from 16 countries for three-year scholarships granted by the Aspire Academy.

"I am very happy to know that I have earned a ticket to go to Qatar. I will try my best in the final round," Thanh of PVF centre said.

Football Dreams, a recruiting project that develops young football talents, is in its ninth year in Viet Nam. It is organised by Qatar's Aspire Academy and the Viet Nam Football Federation.

The unique scouting project aims to identify future talents of world football. Since its 2007 launch, Aspire's Football Dreams project has tested thousands of young footballers from Asia, South America and Africa.

Da Nang-born Nguyen Thai Sung is the first Vietnamese player to receive a three-year scholarship at the academy.

Charity golf tournament to tee off

More than 320 golfers will take part in the 16th Swing for Life golf tournament that will tee off at the Viet Nam Golf & Country Club in HCM City tomorrow.

The event aims to raise money for the Hoa Xuan Tay Nursery School in the southern province of Phu Yen.

The annual event, which started in 2000, has raised over US$800,000 for charity.

Long An rule in the pool

Long An won eight more gold medals to take lead at the National Finswimming and Swimming Clubs Championships in the southern province of Can Tho yesterday, August 25.

Long An have 28 golds, 11 silvers and eight bronzes after three days of competition. National Defence Sport Centre 5 are in second place with 22 golds, 14 silvers and 11 bronzes.

Vinh Long replaced Tay Ninh in third with 12 golds, six silvers and nine bronzes.

The event will close today.
