Floods devastated tens of houses in Xa Nay village, Nham Son commune, Son Ha district. According to the commune government, floods swept away and collapsed more than 210 houses and heavily damaged 800 others.

After the floods, the households whose homes were destroyed are temporarily living in tents, schools or cultural houses. The Quang Ngai authorities have granted VND25-30 million ($1,200-1,500) to each household to help them rebuild the houses.

Mrs. Yen in Son Nham commune prepared the dinner in a newly-built tent. At night, the family sleeps on raincoats. "When the flood receded, my family returned home but we did not see our house anymore," Yen said in tears.

Men in Xa Nay village, Son Nham commune help each others to arrange furniture in temporary tents. "Sharing the same plight, now we just have to encourage each other to live," one man said.

"Flooding pulled down our house, washed our clothes to the trees along the river. After floods receded, we collected them from the trees, washed them so my children have clothes to wear to go to school," Mrs. Nguyen Thi Loan in Son Nham commune said.

Safe water is also a rare thing for the people in the flood-hit region because all wells have been polluted. They have to rely on water resources supported by social organizations. In the evening of November 23, many regions did not have electricity yet.
