Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung

The "Vietnamese digital companies going global" conference was organized on February 23 in Hanoi which gathered MIC’s high ranking officials, representatives from associations, embassies, international consultancy organizations and Vietnam’s overseas trade promotion agencies.

MIC Deputy Minister Phan Tam said in recent years, Vietnam’s digital technology firms have been developing rapidly in both quantity and competitiveness.

As Covid-19 has been relatively controlled, the demand for digital transformation is booming, which creates a vast market for digital products and services. The digital service access people in many rural areas, especially in developing countries, however, remains a big challenge.

According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), 49 percent of the world, or 4 billion people, don’t have an internet connection and can’t access digital services.

“This gives great opportunities to Vietnam’s digital technology firms to expand markets, use their knowledge and technologies to help solve the question of digital transformation in other countries, thus contributing to accelerating digital world building,” Tam said.

This is why in 2023 MIC plans to work with enterprises, digital technology societies, diplomatic agencies and foreign investment-trade representatives on solutions to help Vietnam’s technology firms enter the world market.

He said that Vietnam’s digital technology firms have entered a new development period, when they will bring Make in Vietnam digital products abroad to many countries and become global digital corporations.

Regarding the great potential of Vietnam’s ICT industry in foreign countries, Nguyen Thien Nghia, deputy head of the Authority of Information and Communications, said that there are numerous opportunities in the technology world.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese market is too small compared with the IT workforce at present and in the future.

Vietnam’s technology firms not only have advantages for labor force, but also price competitiveness in the global IT market. That is why Vietnam’s digital technology firms need to conquer the world market.

'Going together’ is one of the ways MIC wants Vietnam’s technology firms to go on the path of conquering the world market. Large companies would guide smaller ones, while pioneering would lead newcomers. In other words, Vietnam will follow the Vietnamese way to go global.

MIC said the ministry will organize conferences, digital trade investment promotion forums and Vietnam’s digital technology stalls overseas, as well as advise the government to sign digital partnership agreements with other countries. At least one event will be organized every month to help digital technology firms do business in foreign countries or go abroad.
