VietNamNet Bridge - Pleiku Airport Director Nguyen Trong Hai on March 4 said the airport will be closed from March 15 to October 25 for repairs and expansion.
The project to upgrade and expand the airport kicked off last September at the cost of VND945 billion ($47 million). The first phase has been completed.
In the second phase, the terminal and the runway will be upgraded. Currently, the airport is only used by Vietnam Airlines, with two flights to Hanoi, one flight to Da Nang and five flights to Ho Chi Minh City per day.
Hai said during the closure, these flights will be transferred to the Phu Cat Airport (Binh Dinh Province) and Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak Province).
Once completed, Pleiku airport will satisfy 4C standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization and the second grade for military airports. The airport will be able to serve A320/321 aircraft and equivalent aircraft. In addition to Vietnam Airlines, VietJetAir and Jetstar Pacific will also use the airport.
