Previously, the capital hosted the SEA Games 22 in 2003, the Asian Indoor Games in 2009 and several other big international sporting events.
To ensure preparations are implemented effectively, the PM assigned the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) to submit reports to the Politburo in July for consultation on the guidelines of hosting the events.
Upon the Politburo’s agreement on the guidelines, the People’s Committee of Hanoi will assume prime responsibility and work with the ministry as well as related organisations to organise the SEA Games 31 and Paragames 11.
The committee is also expected to complete a detailed plan on infrastructure to fully utilise available infrastructure, limit construction and call for different financial resources.
At the same time, athletes and coaches should be thoroughly prepared to achieve the best results at the events.
Over the years, Vietnam’s sport and physical education sector has demonstrated great determination to be ready to host the Sea Games 31 and Para Games 11 in 2021. It is an honour for Vietnam, contributing to promoting the national sport movement, the image of the country, the people of Vietnam and international friends.
According to the MCST, SEA Games 31 is scheduled to last for about 17 days and Para Games 11, about 11 days, from October to December 2021. About 11,000 athletes and coaches are expected to participate in SEA Games 31, with some 2,100 to join Para Games 11.
