President Sang offers incense at Hung Kings Temple
On February 24, President Truong Tan Sang burnt incense in remembrance of Hung Kings’ merits of founding the nation and launched a tree-planting festival in commemoration of President Ho Chi Minh.
With profound gratitude towards ancestral merits, President Sang and his delegation respectfully offered incense, flowers and gifts to ancestors who greatly contributed to founding the country and wished for prosperity and longevity.
According to legend of Hung Kings, Hung Kings usually went to the Nghia Linh mountain top to perform religious ceremonies of agricultural inhabitants worshipping the Rice God and praying for good weather and good harvest.
After Saint Giong defeated the enemy and flew to heaven, Hung Kings allowed setting up a temple on Nghia Linh mountain top. Hung Kings’ Temple and worshiping belief given to the Hung Kings is a reflection of cultural identities and traditional moralities of the Vietnamese people in order to reinforce national solidarity.
After the incense- offering ceremony, President Sang joined local people launching a tree-planting festival in northern Phu Tho province.
In his speech, President Sang said over the past 55 years, in response to the appeal of President Ho Chi Minh, Vietnamese people launched tree-planting festivals throughout localities nationwide.
“The festival has become a good practice of our people during the Tet holidays. Over the years, tree planting movements on lunar New Year have achieved positive results, contributing to promoting environmental protection and socio-economic development and improving people’s living standards,” Sang said.
The same day, President Sang and Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan attended a ceremony to mark the 1975th anniversary of the uprising by the Trung sisters and the opening ceremony of the Trung sisters festival in Me Linh district, Hanoi.
He said that the Trung sisters symbolized the staunchness and patriotism of Vietnamese women.
“Upholding the patriotism of the Trung sisters, today’s generation is determined to safeguard national sovereignty. With unity, justice, and strong international support, we will certainly succeed in defending our sovereignty. By losing a piece of our territory, national independence or self-reliance, we will not be worth of the great sacrifices of the Trung sisters." Sang said.
