VietNamNet Bridge – Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc ordered the government of HCM City to investigate a disturbing smell reported by residents in the southern part of the city in recent weeks.

The smell, whose origin still remains unclear, was reported from Nha Be, Binh Chanh and District 7, where the Phu My Hung Township is located.

The government requested that the local government implement a solution to stop the disturbing smell, which negatively impacting the daily life of residents.  

Many citizens have complained about the smell. However, there has been no improvement so far.

The Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex in Binh Chanh has been accused by local citizens of being the culprit, with the plant receiving 5,000 metric tons of rubbish on a daily basis.

At a recent press meeting, Minister of Natural Resource and Environment Tran Hong Ha told local press that the HCM City’s People’s Committee and municipal Department of Natural Resource and Environment had inspected the smell and the department concluded that activity at the Da Phuoc Waste Treatment Complex could be the main cause of the smell.

Nguyen Toan Thang, director of the department, said that a comprehensive inspection has been carried out in the treatment zone whose results will indicate whether or not the facility has been exuding the stench.
