PM Dung was speaking at a meeting with 63 outstanding nonprofessional inventors in Hanoi on Tuesday. Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam also attended the event, which was organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology as part of the activities marking the National Science-Technology Day in Vietnam on May 18, according to the Government’s portal chinhphu.vn.

The Government leader said inventions of the nonprofessionals should be stimulated and applied for Vietnam’s socio-economic development. He told the ministry to fund their scientific research, and help them protect intellectual property rights and promote their inventions for application in the country.

Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan told the meeting that the ministry is improving a mechanism to stimulate scientific research and technological application and encourage people to invent.

In the past years, nonprofessional scientists have invented many valuable products, including equipment and machines for the agricultural sector, medicine for burn treatment, and even small experimental submarines.

“The achievements of nonprofessional inventors have proved the important role of people in renovations and inventions,” Quan said and added that this should be encouraged at a time when the country’s resources remain limited.

Quan said the ministry has worked out programs to support nonprofessional inventors to form ideas, conduct research and make products. More firms have been set up to develop production and business in the science and technology field.

Prime Minister Dung was quoted by chinhphu.vn as saying that products of better quality and at low prices can attract more customers in the face of rising competition on global markets. Technological application and modern machines will help cut production cost and turn out quality products at reasonable prices.

PM Dung said the Government would focus more on education to help train high-quality human resources to contribute to science and technology. This will lead to better production capacity and living conditions for people.
