Mr. Dung made the request at the opening of the first Congress of the Party Committee of the state-run business sector in Hanoi on November 19, which was attended by 321 delegates representing 66,000 Party members in the sector.

He highlighted the sector’s effort in overcoming difficulties and challenges to make great achievements.

According to a political report presented at the Congress, state-run corporations have fulfilled their mission by raising the operational effectiveness and ensuring stable jobs for workers.

From 2007-2009, state-run businesses contributed more than VND457 trillion, accounting for over 39 percent of the state budget, says the report, adding that the sector is an important factor that helps regulate the market, stabilize prices and macro economics, promote economic growth, and carry out social welfare programmes. It also contributed to ensuring national defense and to the country’s socio-economic development.

The report also states that Party and State policies were implemented intently and communication was carried out effectively. The “studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example” campaign was actively responded to. The building of the Party, staff training, and improving the role of mass organizations have seen significant developments.

The Congress set a target to increase the leadership of the Party in corporations and banks to improve the quality and effectiveness of their operation, ensure their central role in the socialist-oriented market economy, and make greater contributions to making Vietnam an industrialised nation by 2020.

PM Dung asked the congress to work out the best ways to overcome difficulties and take advantage of its potential.
