VietNamNet Bridge – The Mekong Delta city of Can Tho’s police on August 9 transmitted investigation results of an internal organ trading ring to the local People’s Procuracy.
According to police, two Vietnamese men – Vo Dinh Van, 25 from HCM City and Le Son Truyen, 27 from Tay Ninh province – sold their kidneys to two Chinese men named Vuong and A Trang. The two Chinese men then asked Van and Truyen to seek poor, healthy youngsters in Vietnam and bring them to China to sell kidneys at the price of VND40-50 million ($2,000-2,300)/kidney. The two Chinese men committed to cover all related expenses and pay Van and Son VND10 million ($500)/kidney.
The two Chinese men introduced Van and Truyen to a Vietnamese woman named La Thi Thinh, 40 from Bac Giang province, who is specialized in illegally bringing Vietnamese to China through the border. The group worked out a plan to “recruit” kidney sellers.
During their time in China to sell kidneys, Van and Truyen were acquainted with Quang Dai Vang, 24 from Ninh Thuan province, who also sold his kidney to two Chinese men and invited Quang to join the group. Van and Truyen promised to pay Vang VND3 million/kidney.
While Vang was “hunting” kidney sellers in Hau Giang and Can Tho, local people denounced to Can Tho’s police, who detected the kidney trading ring to China.
According to investigation, from 2008 to February 2011, Va, Truyen, Vang and Thinh brought 19 poor people from the central province of Thanh Hoa and southern provinces of An Giang, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Dong Nai and HCM City to China to sell kidneys.
Van earned VND150 million ($7,500), Truyen (VND30 million), Vang (VND21 million) and Thinh (VND5.4 million) from these affairs.
Can Tho Police have proposed the local People’s Procuracy to prosecute Thinh, Van, Vang, Truyen for illegally bringing people overseas.
