Colonel Nguyen Huynh Duong of Quang Tri Province Police Agency said that the police received a lot of phone calls from relatives of martyrs and even overseas Vietnamese denouncing Nguyen Thanh Thuy’s fraud. Many victims reported that they paid a lot of money to Thuy to find the remains of their relatives.

"Many people worried that whether the remains that their families had worshiped so far are real or fake,” Colonel Duong said. He called the victims to report to the police.

Mr. Nguyen Van Khang, one of the victims of Thuy, whose family member – Ms. Doan Thi Nghia – sacrificed in 1970 in Laos, did not hide his anger.

"Thuy asked my family to pay VND15 million to perform a séance. Ten days after the séance, we were asked to give him VND100 million ($5,000) for searching for the remains," Khang said.

During the search process, Thuy revealed that the remains of martyr Nghia were buried in a bag, with accompanying artifacts and the path to the remains is very easy to go. Meanwhile, according to information from Nghia’s teammates, she was buried in a parachute fabric, without any relics, in Laos.

Thuy told Khang’s family that after he searched for the remains of some martyrs in Gio Linh district, Quang Tri province on July 25, he would take Khang’s family to the site where the remains of martyr Nghia were buried. However, hearing information about fake remains, the family did not believe in Thuy anymore.
