As crowds gathered in central Ho Chi Minh City to celebrate Vietnam's victory in the ASEAN Cup on the night of January 5 into the early hours of January 6, traffic police worked tirelessly to ensure public safety and handle instances of reckless behavior.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police Department, the celebrations grew increasingly crowded after the national football team’s triumph, posing significant challenges for officers on duty.

The Ben Thanh Traffic Police Team, responsible for maintaining order in the city center, handled 68 cases of reckless driving during the celebrations, temporarily impounding 44 vehicles.

Violations included:

17 cases of operating vehicles without rearview mirrors.

5 cases of vehicles lacking registration papers.

4 cases involving drivers exceeding legal alcohol limits.

3 vehicles with modified exhaust pipes lacking noise suppression systems.

21 cases of handing over vehicles to unqualified individuals.

6 cases of driving on restricted roads.

The operations required officers to strike a balance between ensuring public safety and allowing citizens to express their joy lawfully.

Coordinated efforts for public safety

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Thang Long, Deputy Head of the Planning and Advisory Division, stated that the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department had mobilized 100% of its forces across 21 districts, including Thu Duc City, during and after the second-leg final match between Vietnam and Thailand.

The coordinated efforts of various units ensured that celebrations remained orderly, with no major incidents reported.

"The teams worked effectively, maintaining public safety while providing space for citizens to celebrate within the framework of the law," said Nguyen Thang Long.
