VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City’s police on September 11 made a raid to a cock fighting grounds at Binh Hung Hoa cemetery in Binh Tan district, which is believed to be the largest in the city, arresting 99 gamblers.

Police kept track of this cock fighting ground for a long time. At 1.30 pm, September 9, around 100 policemen attacked the grounds. This ground was guarded strictly, with several rounds. Police arrested 99 gamblers, seized $22,000, nearly 100 motorbikes and ten cocks.

Gamblers declared that the cock fighting grounds sometimes had up to 400 gamblers, who came from many southern provinces and cities, such as Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Vinh Long, Dong Nai and Binh Duong.

The cock fighting event operated from noon to the evening, with around 10-15 fights. Cock owners bet from $500 to thousands of USD. Chien earned 5 percent of the total bail.

Gamblers could bet from thousands to tens of thousands of USD/fight and 5 percent of the total bet belonged to the manager of the cock fighting grounds.

The cock fighting ground is located in a cemetery.
There was also a gambling den, managed by two men, with bet from $25 to $50 per game.

The cock fighting grounds was run by a man named Chuong Hoang Chien, 31, since 2009. Police had been hunting Chien.

Notably, the cock fighting grounds were only 200m from the local police station, with hundreds of gamblers coming there each day. HCM City Police Department’s director has asked the local police station to explain.

This is the largest cock fighting grounds that HCM City police has demolished so far.

In Vietnam, gambling of all forms is illegal.
