Police seize a large amount of timber
Major General Tran Ky Roi, head of the police force in Dak Lak Province, said units from the Ministry of Public Security had been working with local police. On April 26, hundreds of officers surrounded and raided the logging site. They are still carrying out raids at other logging sites in the national park.
The timber was seized and transferred to a site near Border Guard Station 747 along National Highway 14C in Krong Na Commune, Buon Don District. Yok Don National Park's deputy director Huynh Nghia Hiep said that they had sent employees to check on the situation on the morning of April 27.
Head of the Department of Forest Protection, Do Quang Tung, said, "It's unclear how many trees have been destroyed but this is one of the large-scale destruction cases and the local forest ranger units are working with the police to investigate the case."
According to Tien Phong, the illegal logging site belongs to the owner of the biggest wood supplier in Ea T'ling Town with nickname Phuong Rau. He was arrested earlier this morning while trying to escape on a truck.
