VietNamNet Bridge – The Ministry of Public Security mobilized nearly 100 police officers to arrest 12 vessels transporting smuggled goods worth nearly $1 million from China to the Mong Cai border gate in Quang Ninh province on November 2, the national VTV1 channel has reported.
The owner of the smuggled goods was a couple from Kang Long Ward, Mong Cai City.
At the time of the arrest, the 12 small ships were unloading smuggled goods in a desolate area, about 1km from the Mong Cai border gate.
At least 20 tons of fabric, computer accessories, cosmetics and household goods were loaded to three trucks.
The police also inspected three warehouses in Ka Long Ward of Mong Cai City and discovered a large volume of second-hand electronic components, air conditioners, washing machines, and television sets originating from China. They also seized dozens of sacks of fake milk powder.
By the afternoon on November 3, the authorities completed the inspection and confiscated goods worth more than VND20 billion (about $1 million) and three 1.5-ton trucks with the same number plates.
The authorities said the owner of the smuggled goods was a couple from Kang Long Ward, Mong Cai City. The couple has fled. The case is under further investigation.
According to a police officer, investigators spent four months tracking this case.
