The northern Hung Yen Province police seized nearly 1.4 tonnes of fake Ajinomoto, a brand of monosodium glutamate, from the house of a local resident in Nhat Tan Commune.

Do Thi Hanh, the 49-year-old who was in possession of the stock of fake monosodium glutamate, admitted to the police that she bought it from China at a cheap price, packaged it as Ajinomoto and sold it in the market for profit.

Last Wednesday, the police caught 50-year-old Nguyen Trong Thanh red-handed while he was transporting 15 packets of fake Ajinomoto, weighing 15 kilograms. Thanh told the police that he had bought the counterfeit product from Hanh.

A sample of the fake Ajinomoto has been taken for testing.

The case is under investigation.
