The weapons included Japanese swords, knives, machetes and switchblades. More than 10 boxes of antique electrical goods, clocks, binoculars and ceramic items were also seized.

The police said after months of tracking, they conducted a surprise raid at 8am yesterday, when the house owner Huynh Thi Thanh Tuyen was trading illegal weapons for a customer.

Tuyen, who was also the owner of the illegal goods, failed to show papers regarding the origin of the weapons.

None of the goods had been registered for trading.

Initial investigation showed that the goods were imported and traded via the Internet. Most of the customers were from the northern region.

The police are completing procedures to inspect the second storage area of Tuyen in Cai Rang District, before investigating the case further.
