The Hanoi People's Committee's Office confirmed the news on September 10.

On September 8, several parents whose children are studying at Nguyen Tri Phuong Primary School said that their children had been beaten by a teacher with a ruler because they were late getting into class after a break. There are bruises on the leg of a pupil.

The head of the school confirmed the reported beating and said this was the first time such an incident had happened at their school. The teacher has been suspended.

It is said that the teacher admitted that she was wrong and apologised to the families. The parents of the pupils also accepted her apology.

On September 11, 49 headmasters of nurseries, primary and secondary schools in Ba Dinh District held a meeting to discuss the issue.

Hanoi Chairman Nguyen Duc Chung said the teacher should be punished. The Department of Education and Training is tasked with making a report on the incident by September 15.
