All 475 deputies present, or 95.19 percent of the total number of lawmakers, voted yes.

In the morning on the same day, all 466 lawmakers, or 93.39 percent of the total, also approved a Resolution on the number of the members of the NA Standing Committee.

Under the national flag and in front of the NA and voters nationwide, Chairman Hue took oaths, pledging to stay absolutely loyal to the nation, people and Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. He also vowed to exert great efforts to fulfill tasks entrusted by the Party, State and people.

In his speech, the top legislator affirmed that in his position, he will do his best to continue renewing the working methods and improving the operation quality and efficiency of the legislature for the supreme goal of serving national interests and for the sake of well-being of the people.

He also pledged to consolidate national defence-security, firmly safeguard national independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, and enhance global integration.

15th National Assembly elect Vice Chairmen, members of Standing Committee

The 15th National Assembly elected Vice Chairmen and members of the Standing Committee of the legislative body in the afternoon of July 20, the first day of the first session of the 15th legislature.

All 483 deputies present at the sitting voted to adopt a resolution on the election of four NA Vice Chairmen, who are Tran Thanh Man, Nguyen Khac Dinh, Nguyen Duc Hai and Tran Quang Phuong.

Tran Thanh Man, born 1962, is a member of the 13th Politburo and was a deputy of the NA in the 13th and 14th tenures.

Nguyen Khac Dinh, born 1964, is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and was a deputy of the NA in the 14th tenure.

Nguyen Duc Hai, born 1961, is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee and was a deputy of the NA in the 13th and 14th tenures.

Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quang Phuong, born 1961, is a member of the 13th Party Central Committee.

Later, the NA also adopted a resolution on the election of 13 members of the NA Standing Committee. As a result, the NA Standing Committee in the 15th tenure will comprise the NA Chairman, the four Vice NA Chairmen, and the 13 elected members.

Immediately after the election, the NA Standing Committee convened its first session to assign duties among the members and gave opinions on personnel work.

According to the day’s working programme, after the session, the committee is slated to submit to the NA a list of nominated candidates for the NA to elect the NA General Secretary, the Chairman of the Ethnic Council, Chairmen of the NA’s committees, and the Auditor General of the State Audit Office.

The NA then will discuss the list of nominees in groups./.

15th National Assembly convenes first session


The 15th National Assembly convened its first session in Hanoi on July 20 morning. The special event, which was broadcast live, draw the participation of highest-ranking officials and 499 newly elected deputies.

During the session slated to last until the end of this month, the legislative body will elect and approve leadership positions of State agencies, and mull over reports on socio-economic development and other major issues.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the 14th NA Vuong Dinh Hue highlighted the elections of deputies to the 15th NA and all-level People’s Councils for 2021-2026.

He stressed that the success of the first session of the 15th National Assembly will create an important premise and momentum for legislative activities in the tenure.

In his key speech at the session, Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong asked the legislature to speed up the issuance and improve the quality of legal documents, soon build a legal system to meet demand in reality, and build and supplement laws in key areas that make breakthroughs in socio-economic development.

The National Assembly needs to continue renewing and further improving operation quality and efficiency to meet the country’s requirements and political tasks in the new period, the Party leader said.

He added that to such end, it is necessary to fully understand the role, position and responsibility of the legislature in the nation’s political system led by the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as promptly institutionalise the Party’s policies and guidelines to meet demand in reality and public expectations./.
