The program will help control pollution at 47 seriously contaminated craft villages and 100 other sites poisoned by pesticide residues.
It will also treat wastewater discharged into the basins of the Nhue-Day, Cau and Dong Nai rivers.
Statistics show that Viet Nam is home to around 3,500 traditional craft villages and 1,000 of them are seeking financial support to deal with environmental pollution.
The villages are suffering from waste water disposal, mounting piles of garbage and air pollution from the burning of toxic substances used in small production sites.
Earlier, PM Nguyen Tan Dung last September approved the program of which the fund comes from the State budget, local budget, official development assistance and other sources.
The State budget accounts for 43% and ODA accounts for 27% of the total fund.
