Tourists at drink stalls on the pavement of Bui Vien Street

The plan which is built by the city's Department of Tourism and District 1 People's Committee, will include upgrading infrastructure and rearranging traffic on Pham Ngu Lao and De Tham streets and turning Bui Vien into a pedestrian street at night.

According to vice chairman of Pham Ngu Lao Ward People's Committee, Cao Hong Viet, owners of food and drink stalls will be allowed to park vehicles or serve customers on the pavements from 5pm on some pedestrian streets in the area.

“We have informed business owners in the area and they are all happy with this draft plan,” Viet said.

"We'll try to build more cultural, art and food events here to attract more visitors."

The Bui Vien Pedestrian Street will be open from 7pm to 12am and open until 4am next morning on holiday.

HCM City vice chairman, Tran Vinh Tuyen said the opening of this pedestrian street is expected to create another entertainment area for visitors, especially foreign tourists and will help develop tourism in the city.

A survey by Pham Ngu Lao Ward People's Committee showed 140 business households in the area would benefit from Bui Vien being pedestrianised.
