VietNamNet Bridge – An exhibition of pottery products made by students of the Hanoi-based Nguyen Dinh Chieu School for Blind Students opened at the Vietnam Fine Art Museum on November 19.
To prepare for this event, 12 members of the “House of Art” and teachers Dao Ngoc Huynh
and Do Quoc Vi had to prepare since the early 2011.
The group was greatly assisted by artisans from traditional pottery villages of Bat Trang (Hanoi),
Cay (Hai Duong) and Ngoi (Bac Giang).
The exhibition displays two big-sized vases, five medium-sized vases, 20 paintings
on plates, 150 small products and 40 paintings.
Most of pottery works were made by schoolboys while paintings are products by schoolgirls.
Eyes appear in many works.
Instructor Huynh said his students have given themselves up to these works.
Luong Quoc Hung, a blind student, said he did not return home with his family on weekends to
go to pottery villages with his teacher to quickly finish his works.
Blind students spent several hours or half of a day to make a product.
They make their favorite patterns on pottery items, like lotuses and turtles by Luong Quoc
Hung and happy men by Bui The Thanh.
Many products are very nice and the audience does not think that they are made by blind people.
Teachers of the “House of Art” said that the exhibition is held to deliver the message “the blind can work
like normal people” and seek opportunities for blind students.
