The 13th National Assembly (NA) Standing Committee convened its 36th session on March 9 with the special focus on final preparations for the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132) to be held in Hanoi later this month.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said IPU-132 will focus on promoting messages of peace, democracy, and social progress and equality. It will also be a great opportunity to promote Vietnamese land, people, and parliament, he added.

Chairman of the NA’s Committee for External Relations Tran Van Hang said IPU-132 is scheduled to include 67 sessions and 66 bilateral meetings, adding that 126 delegations have registered to attend the event so far.

Vietnam will send 12 NA deputies to participate in and speak at 15 forums, Hang noted.

Members of the NA Standing Committee also underscored the importance of ensuring security and safety for IPU-132 as the biggest diplomatic event ever held in Vietnam.

The last rehearsal for the IPU-132 opening ceremony will be held on March 15 at the NA headquarters.

During the 36th session, the NA Standing Committee will also comment on eight draft laws and a number of resolutions and infrastructure projects.

They are expected to debate adjustments to a series of administrative units and organise question-and-answer sessions for Chief Judge of the Supreme People’s Court Truong Hoa Binh and Minister and Chairman of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Giang Seo Phu.

Hanoi police carry out protection plans for IPU 132

Hanoi police launched plans to serve the organisation of the 132 nd Inter-Parliamentary Union Assembly (IPU-132), lasting from March 25 to April 1.

At the launch function held on March 10, Deputy Minister of Public Security To Lam affirmed that the capital’s police is the main force providing protection for IPU-132.

“Ensuring absolute political security and social order is extremely important to the success of the IPU Assembly,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

All of Hanoi police’s forces have been deployed for the task while still maintaining the performance of their assigned duties.

During IPU- 132, crackdown on criminals will be reinforced, according to Hanoi police.

Deputy Minister To Lam asked that Hanoi police’s plans must also ensure security and social order in the capital city.

Vietnam proves vital role in hosting IPU 132

Andrey Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Council of Russian Federation, has said Vietnam has proven its important role in hosting the 132nd Inter-Parliamentary Union General Assembly (IPU-132).

Klimov told a Moscow-based VOV correspondent in Russia,“I’m glad that Vietnam will host IPU 132 for the first time. I believe that the country is an ideal place to organize the event although Vietnam has never held such a big event before. With our joint efforts, I strongly believe that IPU 132 will be a great success.”

Andrey Klimov also expressed his hope that Vietnam and Russia will boost multilateral relations in the years to come.
