The White House website recently announced that President Biden has put forward several nominations for key positions within the State Department, including Ambassadors to various countries.
Among these nominations, the appointment of a new US Ambassador to Vietnam stands out. President Biden has selected Mr. Kin Moy for this important role.
According to the White House, Mr. Kin Moy is a career diplomat with the US Department of State, presently serving as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Office of East Asian and Pacific Affairs.
His previous roles include Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Office of East Asian and Pacific Affairs; Deputy Executive Secretary in the Office of the Secretary of State; and Director of the Executive Secretariat in the Office of the Secretary of State.
Mr. Moy has also served at the US Embassies in China and Korea. He holds degrees from the University of Minnesota and Columbia University, and is proficient in Chinese.
Following President Biden's nomination, Mr. Moy will undergo a hearing before the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, a crucial step towards securing Senate confirmation.
The current US Ambassador to Vietnam, Mr. Marc Knapper, was appointed in early 2022. He is the eighth individual to hold this position since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
