Marc Evans Knapper is among the nine nominations for US ambassadors abroad, including Vietnam.
Knapper is currently served as Deputy Assistant Secretary for Korea and Japan Bureau of East Asian and Pacific Affairs of the US Department of State
He used to work at US embassies in the Republic of Korea, Japan, India, Baghdad and Iraq, and can speak Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese.
In addition to Knapper, President Joe Biden's nominee list also includes US ambassador candidates in Somalia, Algeria, Bahrain, Lesotho, Cameroon, Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Congo.
According to CNN, this is the first US ambassador nomination after Biden took office on January 20. Those on the list of nominees have many years of working at the US Department of State.
US Ambassador to Vietnam Daniel Kritenbrink is about to end his term and was nominated by President Biden as Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and the Pacific.
Ambassador Kritenbrink was designated by former President Donald Trump as US ambassador to Vietnam in July 2017 and began his term in November of that year.
