VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam and Australia need to better their cooperation in economics, infrastructure construction, and education to fully tap their development potential.
State President Truong Tan Sang was speaking at a reception in Hanoi on November 9 for New South Wales Governor Marie Bashir who was visiting Vietnam to receive a honourary professor title at the Hanoi Medical University.
He suggested New South Wales and Vietnamese localities increase cooperation in the areas of their strengths, contributing to deepening relations between the two countries.
He expressed hope with a wealth of experience in health care, Marie Bashir and other leaders of New South Wales will assist Vietnam in medical training to improve medical staff’ professional skills.
Sang also proposed the Australian State assist Vietnam’s agricultural sector with plant variety cross-breeding and technology transfer to produce high quality farm products.
Marie Bashir acknowledged Vietnam’s role in ensuring global food security and said upon her return she will work with relevant agencies to develop agriculture cooperation programmes with Vietnam, including technology transfer.
She said both Australia and Vietnam have potential for strengthening medical cooperation when an increasing number of Vietnamese health officials and students have visited and studied in Australia in recent times.
This is Marie Bashir’s ninth visit to Vietnam.
