VietNamNet Bridge – The Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, in collaboration with PVI Holdings under the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group, held a ceremony on May 17 at the Hanoi Opera House to present the awards for the 2012 ‘Studying and Following President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example’ writing contest.

The event was attended by Politburo member, Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee (CPVCC) and Head of the CPVCC Inspection Commission, Ngo Van Du; CPVCC members State Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Van Ninh, and National Assembly Vice Chairman Uong Chu Luu; along with leaders of ministries, sectors and organisations.

Addressing the ceremony, CPVCC member and Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper Thuan Huu said the contest aimed to seek out role models in the ‘Studying and Following President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example’ campaign and popularise the Politburo’s Directive No.3-CT/T.Ư on promoting ‘Studying and Following Uncle Ho’s Moral Example’. During the year since it was launched, the contest attracted more than 700 entries from people in all walks of life, both in Vietnam and abroad, more than 100 of which were published in Nhan Dan Newspaper’s publications. The organisers selected the 19 best entries to receive awards including one first prize, three second prizes, five third prizes and 10 consolation prizes.

First prize went to Pham Minh Thu for his article about Nguyen Ngoc Lai, the former Deputy Chairman of the Con Cuong district People Committee in the central province of Nghe An. Mr. Lai has devoted his entire life to protecting forests and has twice been awarded the title of Labour Hero.

In his speech, Politburo member Van Du praised Nhan Dan Newspaper and PVI for taking the initiative to organise the contest and encouraging the Party and people to implement the Politburo's Directive on promoting the campaign for ‘Studying and Following President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example’. He also urged the press to continue its role in discovering and honouring exemplary real life role models who provide a great source of inspiration and encouragement for the entire population to contribute to national construction and development.

On the occasion, Nhan Dan Newspaper and the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group also launched the second phase of the writing contest on ‘Studying and Following President Ho Chi Minh’s Moral Example’.
