The 2022 contest was jointly organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and the Administration of Seas and Islands of Vietnam.
The contest, the second of its kind, is organized to acknowledge contributions by media workers to marine environmental protection in general and ocean plastic waste pollution mitigation in particular.
It also aims to promote the role of the press in disseminating information and the responsibility of relevant actors toward reducing ocean plastic pollution.
Vietnam is one of the countries that discharge a large amount of plastic waste into the ocean.
Without swift actions to be taken, people’s lives and future generations will be severely impacted, as plastics can gradually occupy the living space of marine species and destroy natural resources in it, according to organisers of the contest.
The deadline for submissions will be September 30, and the awards ceremony is set to be held a month later.
