The media outlets must understand their position, role and mission in preparation for disseminating socio-economic tasks and covering major events this year.

Dinh The Huynh, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Popularisation and Education, made the remark in the first 2015 meeting with heads of media organisations, adding that 2015 will culminate the five-year socio-economic plan (2011-2015).

Newspapers and radio and television stations must effectively and creatively cover the 40th anniversary of the country’s Unification Day, the 125th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh’s birthday, and the lower-level party congresses, he added.

Addressing the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam thanked the journalists and reporters on behalf of the Government for contributing to the effective operation of the Government as well as ensuring defence and security.

Dam expressed his hopes that media outlets would actively help reform the economic management mechanism.

The press should also promote national unity to protect the country’s full sovereignty, assist the Government in building a law-abiding country and fight against corruption and waste, Dam said.
