VietNamNet's reporters traveled to Cam Chinh Village (Cam Lo District, Quang Tri Province) to meet Mr. Nguyen Xuan Bieu, 70, in Minh Chinh Hamlet to get to know more about his collection of ancient things.
Mr. Bieu owns a unique collection of agricultural tools, bowls, chopsticks, parts of bullets, clocks, … His hobby gradually became more meaningful as these precious objects can now be introduced to younger generations.
Mr. Bieu was once the president of the Cam Lo District Committee of Viet Nam Fatherland Front. He had always wanted to collect ancient objects, but he was too busy, but as he got old, he could finally do what he loved.
When he retired eight years ago, he started to buy and look for precious old items and organized them. He owns around 350 items. Some of them were more than 100 years old. He labelled each item with detailed information and separated his collection into sections to resurrect their cultural value. In one section, he displays utensils and agricultural tools such as a mill, a plow. In another section, there are war memorabilia such as a binoculars, compass, flashlight, and small pieces of planes.
Turning a room into a small museum not only satisfies Mr. Bieu desires but also helps preserve cultural identity and educate others. Thanks to people like Mr. Bieu, youngsters can learn more about items closely related to the life of previous generations.
