Following two tragic accidents on January 12 and 13, the Prime Minister issued directives to mitigate the aftermath and prevent similar incidents.
The first accident, involving a truck in Nam Can Commune, Ky Son District, Nghe An Province, resulted in six fatalities. The second, on Vo Nguyen Giap Street in Hanoi, claimed three lives when a truck collided with a motorcycle.
In response, the Prime Minister extended his condolences to the victims’ families and directed provincial and municipal leaders, including Nghe An and Hanoi authorities, to support the injured and manage the accidents' consequences effectively.
Strengthening traffic enforcement and management
The Prime Minister instructed the Minister of Public Security to enhance patrols and inspections, particularly of trucks and large passenger vehicles, during the busy period before and after the Lunar New Year.
Violations such as speeding, overloading, driving under the influence, and improper lane use must be strictly penalized under the law.
Local police and expressway management units were directed to handle cases of vehicles stopping on highways promptly, including those caused by mechanical failures, to prevent further accidents.
The Ministry of Transport and provincial leaders have been tasked with designing more scientific and efficient traffic systems to resolve congestion in high-traffic areas like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Medical support and legal action
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for Nghe An and Hanoi authorities to ensure adequate medical care for the injured and minimize damage to property and lives.
He also directed local governments to investigate and hold accountable any organizations or individuals whose actions contributed to these accidents.
The Ministry of Transport, through the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, was instructed to review traffic management on busy and steep roads to improve safety and reduce congestion risks.
