This is Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's first official visit to South Korea and marks the first visit by a senior Vietnamese leader since the two countries upgraded their relationship to a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” in 2022. The visit also follows the State visit by South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to Vietnam in June 2023.
The visit aims to solidify agreements between the senior leaders of both countries, following the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-South Korea Comprehensive Strategic Partnership signed in June 2023.
The leaders will review new developments, discuss strategic issues, and explore cooperation in national defense, security, economic matters, trade, investment, people-to-people exchanges, and multilateral forums.
During nearly four days in South Korea, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will participate in over 30 activities. Beyond official meetings with senior Korean leaders, he will attend and speak at three forums: Business Forum, Tourism Promotion and Cultural Cooperation Forum, and the Vietnam-Korea Labor Forum.
The Prime Minister will also participate in two seminars: one with leaders of Korean economic organizations and another with Korean intellectuals and scientists on semiconductors and artificial intelligence.
Additionally, he will meet with representatives from leading Korean economic groups investing in Vietnam and visit Samsung Group's semiconductor factory in Pyeongtaek city, Gyeonggi province.
Other notable activities include visiting the Vietnamese Embassy, meeting representatives of the Vietnamese community in Korea, visiting a Vietnamese-Korean multicultural family, and delivering a policy speech at Seoul National University.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Vu noted that more than half of the Prime Minister's activities during this visit will focus on the economic sector. Economic cooperation remains a crucial pillar in advancing Vietnam-Korea bilateral relations, promoting substantial development between the two nations.
