Summarizing the outstanding results of the business trip, Ngoc said with more than 60 activities, bilateral and multilateral, at different levels (regional level within ASEAN and global level with the United Nations), the business trip is the deployment of the foreign policy set forth by the 13th Party Congress.
The policy concerns independence, self-reliance for peace, friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization, diversification and extensive international integration, contributing to elevating multilateral foreign affairs and deepening bilateral relations with the US - one of Vietnam’s most important partners nearly three decades after establishing diplomatic relations.
Ngoc affirmed that Vietnam has actively participated in the special summit held to celebrate the 45th anniversary of the relationship between ASEAN and the US, from the preparation to organization to documentation at all levels.
The statements of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh reflected the common concerns of the countries; highlighted the central role of ASEAN, the spirit of sincerity, trust and responsibility; and shared his visions on the issues of the world and the region, and a development orientation suitable to the interests of ASEAN, the US and the international community.
The statements were highly appreciated by other countries, creating a consensus in ASEAN, coordinating harmoniously with US to achieve important results, creating a 45-year special milestone. The approval of the ASEAN-US Joint Vision Statement brings the two sides' relationship to a new stage, raising it a comprehensive strategic partnership.
Vietnam’s prestige in international arena heightened
The Prime Minister met with the leaders of important agencies of the United Nations, including the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the General Assembly, the Executive Director of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Director General of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
The meetings, which took place on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of relations between Vietnam and the UN (1977-2022), ate significant, showing Vietnam’s message of considering the UN as a leading trustworthy partner for peace, cooperation for development in the world, and a long-term and loyal friend in every period of development.
Vietnam is a sincere, reliable and responsible partner of the United Nations, and makes every effort to contribute its best to the common work of the UN and the international community.
The Prime Minister received the UN’s agreement, appreciation and commitment to continue accompanying Vietnam in implementing its policies on renovation and international integration, building an independent and self-reliant economy and socio-economic development coupled with social security assurance and environmental protection, putting people at the center and considering people as the driving force of the development process.
Vietnam has successfully taken full advantage of UN agencies’ diverse support resources, especially the knowledge, experience and global connectivity to implement Vietnam's urgent tasks, such as coping and recovering after the pandemic, developing a green economy and shifting to clean energy, climate financing, digital transformation, clearing landmines, and overcoming the consequences of war, and others.
Support a strong, independent and prosperous Vietnam
The Prime Minister had busy bilateral activities throughout the business trip, from the time of landing in Washington, to the time in Boston and New York and until leaving San Francisco. These were meetings at the highest level and the most comprehensive ones between the US and Vietnam after two years of interruption because of the pandemic.
The Prime Minister met with US President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, US Senator Patrick Leahy, the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, ministers of the cabinet, scholars, leading enterprises, and overseas Vietnamese from the east and west coasts.
The leaders of ministries and sectors accompanying the Prime Minister had more than 40 meetings, working sessions and discussions with partners in the fields of economy, trade, finance and banking, security, national defense and climate change response, environmental protection, digital transformation, energy transformation, science and technology and innovation.
All of them showed that they attach much importance to relations with Vietnam, affirmed that they respect Vietnam’s political system and support Vietnam to develop in a prosperous and independent way, and that they want bilateral relations to develop strongly and effectively.
The two sides had substantive exchanges and frank dialogues about the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership and the development orientations in the time to come, and worked closely to implement the important results of the visits in the past, especially the Joint Vision Statement on the relationship between the two countries on the occasion of the 2015 visit to the US by Vietnamese Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh was the only ASEAN leader who delivered a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) in Washington D.C. and the first high ranking Vietnamese leader delivering a speech at Harvard University.
Spending time to visit the headquarters and receiving leading US corporations and businesses, attending seminars on innovation and entrepreneurship, and ringing the bell and talking with financial institutions at the New York Stock Exchange, the Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam consistently creates favorable conditions for investors to do business in Vietnam, considering investors' interests as its own interests.
Vietnam prioritizes investments in a green economy, new technology, digital transformation and innovation, and asks enterprises to participate in work to overcome the consequences of the war.
