The VND1 trillion club includes state-owned enterprises (SOEs) which have big initial investment capital and large operation scale. Most private businesses are small and medium scale, ineligible for the club’s membership.
However, many private businesses have been growing very fast recently and have added their names on the list of the VND1 trillion club members.
Though the 2015 finance reports have not been released, it is easy to guess who are the members of the club, because their turnover exceeded the VND1 trillion threshold after the first nine months of 2015.

The sale of 80 percent of stakes of sweets manufacturing to Mondelēz International helped raise the post-tax profit of the group to VND5.122 trillion in the second quarter of 2015.
This allowed it to obtain VND6.582 trillion in pretax profit and VND5.152 trillion in post-tax profit in the first half of the year.
However, after transferring the sweets manufacturing, Kido Group reported modest profit of VND80 billion only in the third quarter, a sharp decrease of 77.7 percent compared with the profit made in the same period of the year before.
Hoa Phat Group witnessed a prosperous year in 2015 thanks to the strong demand in the steel market. It obtained turnover of VND20.616 trillion in the first nine months of the year and profit of VND2.938 trillion.
With the result, Hoa Phat had fulfilled more than 90 percent of the yearly plan set up earlier in 2015 just by the end of the third quarter.
The Gioi Di Dong, the largest mobile phone distribution chain, has reported turnover of VND22.941 trillion for the first 11 months of the year, the pretax profit of over VND1 trillion and post-tax profit of VND958 billion.
The presence of many real estate developers on the list of VND1 trillion club’s members is foreseeable since the warming-up of the real estate market in 2015 helped boost sales.
Vingroup, the biggest player in the field, is expected to obtain more than VND1 trillion in post-tax profit though its reported profit was VND998.1 billion only by the end of the third quarter.
Vingroup’s history showed that it never had post-tax profit of less than VND1 trillion since 2009 when it began operation.
