VietNamNet Bridge - Executive Director of the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Unit (PMU) – Mr. Nguyen Minh Hai has been suspended for problems related to the quality of Highway 14, the section from Kon Tum to Pleiku.

Highway 14 is heavily damaged.

The PMU has also requested to replace four engineers of a construction supervision consultant company of Cuba, to reprimand two contractors and to replace several staff of the two bidding packages of the Highway 14 implemented by these contractors.

The project to upgrade Highway 14 - Ho Chi Minh Highway, the section from Kon Tum to Pleiku City is nearly 35km long, built by seven contractors.

During the construction, the Department of Construction and Traffic Work Quality Management inspected and discovered some sections failing to meet quality standards. The agency asked contractors to stop construction to fix the error and address quality management task.

This time is the rainy season in the central highlands so the to the Department of Construction and Traffic Work Quality Management has asked the contractors to asphalt the road to ensure smooth circulation and to repair the road after the rainy season.

At the meeting the Ministry of Transport on September 17, Minister Dinh La Thang stated to punish the heads of transportation project management units if the quality of road construction is not guaranteed.
