They are Vu Tung Lam (Ninh Binh Province), Vu Tien Manh (Hanoi), Ngo Thai Bao Loan (Bac Ninh Province), Dang Thi Hai Yen (Thai Nguyen Province), Nguyen Thi Truc Phuong (Ca Mau Province), Hoang Minh Ha (Daklak Province), Pham Hoang Minh (HCMC), Luong Ba Tung (San Francisco, the U.S.), Nguyen Thi Diem My (Long An Province), Chau Chan Hung (HCMC), Lam Gia Khang (HCMC) and Vo Hoang Nhu Lan (Dong Nai Province).

The contestants who were born in 1989 or 1990 were tested in front of jury boards in Hanoi and HCMC where they had to sketch a design, cut it and create it in 90 minutes after organizers supplied materials.

“I’m so impressed with young Vietnamese designers as they are so talented and creative and some of their designs are the best I have seen in the world,” said Chloe Dao, the Vietnamese-American designer who won the second season of Project Runway U.S. in 2005 at the event on Wednesday. Dao is on the jury and is a producer of the show.

“The finalists are the best of thousands of candidates who can sketch and sew while others are just good at drawing. We have chosen them for their prominent characteristics as well,” said Le Thi Quynh Trang, chairwoman of Multimedia JSC, the show’s producer.

The final round, which will be turned into eight episodes, will see contestants create a new design weekly. The last one standing will bring home a cash prize of VND200 million and their designs will feature on an eight page spread on Harper’s Bazaar magazine.

Moreover, the winner will be recruited for Canifa fashion brand and receive another VND300 million in cash from the brand. The top three will go to Paris to meet representatives from Christian Dior.

Project Runway also opens opportunities for 12 young models who will accompany the  designers. A designer and their model will go home every week. The model whose designer is the winner will have free use of Maybelline cosmetics worth VND100 million over 12 months and will feature in the Harper’s Bazaar spread.
