VietNamNet Bridge – Another case in which a kindergarten teacher mistreated a four-year-old boy has been reported in HCM City, making a wave of indignation in society.

A teacher named Tran Thi Xuan Nu at a private kindergarten named Hoa Lan in Tan Phu district, HCM City has been accused of maltreating her student, Le Quang Vinh, 4. On September 22, Lan confined the boy to a food transporting elevator and controlled the elevator to move continuously from the first to the second floor.

The HCM City Law Newspaper quoted the child’s mother – Du Thi Thanh Thuy - as saying that the elevator is a small box with one door, where people put and take food in and out. The other sides of the box are not covered by any thing and is very close to the wall, which is very rough.

When the child was confided into the elevator, his hands clang to the door and his body was rubbed against the wall. At the time he was pulled out of the elevator, his body was covered with blood from top to bottom. His head, face and body turned bluish black. His left eye protruded.

The boy was taken to HCM City’s Cho Ray Hospital for treatment and for survey of his injuries. Doctors diagnosed that the boy suffered from many serious injuries on his face, his head, chest and limbs. His left collar-bone was also broken.

According to the HCM City Law Newspaper, the boy was still in panic. The family denounced the teacher and asked her to take responsibility for the boy’s injuries.

The teacher was suspended from teaching while her kindergarten was closed for inspection. The kindergarten had to pay 50 million dong of hospital fees for the boy.

The public was very angry because this is not the first case of its kind.

In May 2007, a kindergarten teacher named Do Thi Lien, 27, in Hoang Mai district, Hanoi, angry over her disagreement with the headmaster, put ant poison into a pot of soup for pupils. Luckily, nobody was harmed.

In December 2007, teacher Luu Thi Tuyet of a kindergarten in Nam Thanh ward, Ninh Binh city, was fired for threatening and scratching the face of her pupil.

Another kindergarten teacher in Lang Son city injured the genitals of a 2-year-old boy.

In August 2010, a kindergarten teacher in Hoan Kiem district, Hanoi slapped a three-year-old boy’s face, leaving a handprint on his face.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, in a short period of time in 2007, there were nearly 20 maltreatment cases against pupils in Vietnam.

Police of Tan Phu district, HCM City, said they had received the victim family’s letter of denunciation. They are awaiting the injury assessment from doctors to take legal proceeding against the teacher.
