In the night Gala Opera Puccini soprano Angela Nisi and tenor Vitaliv Kovalchuk will sing extracts from Madam Butterfly, Tosca, Suor Angelica, Turandot, Levilli, Gianni Schicchi and La Boheme under conductor Damiano Guiranna.
Nisi started her career as a lyric soprano in 2010, demonstrating equal dedication to operatic, symphonic and chamber repertoire. She earned a Master's degree in solo repertoire with orchestra at the Conservatory of Monopoli.
Her awards include the F. Provenzale Baroque Singing Competition (Naples, 2006) and the Ottavio Ziino Competition (Rome, 2012).
The Ukrainian tenor Kovalchuk, started his study of lyrical singing at the Ternopil College of Music in his hometown of Ternopil. In 2007, he debuted as a soloist in the first part, interpreting the song of Canio in the opera Pagliacci. He has performed Tosca, Madam Butterfly and La Boheme.
Conductor Guiranna founded WYO and shortly after the World Youth Chamber Orchestra, he has introduced a new approach to music. This approach combines a profound commitment to the art with a dedication to social causes.
The 45 members of the orchestra are from countries such as Germany, Japan, Thailand, Italy, the UK, France and Russia, together with 25 members of the Việt Nam National Academy of Music, performing together in Hà Nội from March to April 12.
The concerts are part of the Sounds of Brotherhood music project by the World Youth Orchestra Foundation.
Founded in 2001, the WYO has welcomed more than 2,000 talents from all continents, and conducted many tours around the world. — VNS
