VietNamNet Bridge – Question- and- answer sessions at the National Assembly had been declared closest to the interests of voters by Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong who said these included questions involving public discontent.

Trong said the sessions were animated, responsible and democratic and deeply impressed voters nationwide.

He noted that deputies brought up hot issues that reflected what was happening in reality.

"This proves the NA is more and more relevant to life and people," he said. "Discussions were productive both in groups and during plenary sessions."

His comments came as the NA Standing Committee yesterday, Dec 3, reviewed the results of sessions held over the last two months and prepared for next year's sessions.

Head of the NA Office Tran Dinh Dan noted that all bills were submitted according to schedule and that they were compiled and examined carefully and responsibly.

In two months, the NA passed nine bills with high approval rates and made revisions to other nine bills.

Trong noted that the conduct of the sessions was also much improved. He agreed with many Standing Committee members that the question-and-answer periods were the highlights of the sessions.

"Levels of dialogue and debate between enquirers and respondents increased," he noted.

However, the NA Office report also cited some shortcomings, including inadequate preparation of bills and baffling reports by ministries, including one on Vinashin.

Some questions were unfocused while some answers were rambling, general and not to the point, the report noted.

"Overlapping ideas brought up by deputies were yet to be checked, thus making the sessions time-consuming," read the report.

Heads of the NA Committee of Defence and Security Le Quang Binh and Ombudsman's Committee, Tran The Vuong hailed the sessions as the most successful so far during the term by the incumbent NA.

Head of the NA Office Tran Dinh Dan also presented a report on preparations for next year's sessions, scheduled to start in March and last in two weeks.

The Assembly plans to discuss and pass five bills concerning anti-human trafficking, independent auditing, capital city, sea and civil litigation.

It will also hold hearings to review Government reports on achievements and execution of socio-economic development targets and the State budget.

About one-third of the sessions will be devoted to hearing reports on the NA's performance since 2007, including that of the President, Prime Minister, Chief Judge of the Supreme People's Court and Head of the Supreme People's Procuracy.
