VietNamNet Bridge – Number one tennis player Do Minh Quan will face talented young player Nguyen Hoang Thien in the quarter-finals today, Sep 13,  at the ongoing national tennis championships at Phu Tho Tennis Club.

In the second round, Quan easily crushed Ly Hoang Nam of Binh Duong 6-0, 6-0 while Thien also showed strength by beating Nguyen Hoang Hai 6-1, 6-1.


Thien, who definitely replaces Quan as the No 1 player in the foreseeable future, has never been a tough opponent for Quan.


But Quan is expected to have a tough time today because Thien has been training overseas with two French coaches for a long period.


Marcel Dominique Petit, Thien's fitness coach, said that Thien's physical strength had greatly improved and he can now play long games without getting tired.


Another young talent, Ho Huynh Dan Mach of Binh Duong, who beat experienced Hoang Thanh Trung of Da Nang in the first round, will take on Le Minh of Da Nang.


The 16-year-old Binh Duong player defeated Da Nang-based Trung 2-1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-2).


Another impressive victory belonged to Minh Tuan of Da Nang when he crushed veteran Huynh Chi Khuong of the Army 2-0 (6-1, 6-4).


Other singles' men quarter-final games are Ngo Quang Huy of HCM City play against Tran Hoang Anh Khoa of the Army, and Pham Minh Tuan of Da Nang meets Van Huu Nguyen Vu of Da Nang.
