The organising board said at a press conference on January 14 that they expect to welcome more than 1,500 athletes who are Vietnamese and international.
They will compete in four different categories of 42km (full marathon), 21km (half marathon), 14km and 7km. There is also a 3km-Fun Run free of charge to encourage people to take part in running activities to improve their fitness.
Quang Binh Province also hopes through this event people will learn more about the provincial tourism potential, biodiversity and the national park.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang is one of the UNESCO World Natural Heritage sites in Vietnam. The park is home to caves, underground rivers, and some of the most spectacular flora and fauna in the world.
With great natural beauty, landscapes and local people, the marathon, organised for the first time, offers runners beautiful routes, passing through the most famous scenic landscapes such as the Botanical Garden, Ozo Park, Tra Ang Bridge, Mooc Spring and Paradise Cave.
