Previously, the air tickets for Vietnamese players at the World Chess Cup were provided by the Vietnam Sport and Physical Training Administration and the remaining expenses were covered by the Vietnam Chess Federation.

However, this year the Sport and Physical Training Administration does not give funding for Quang Liem and Truong Son because the chess federation, in its annual plan, proposed to cover the entire expenses, explained Mr. Lam Quang Thanh - Deputy chief of the Sport and Physical Training Administration.

Mr. Pham Ngoc Son, deputy chairman of the Vietnam Chess Federation, said: "The Federation wants to share the cost burden to the Sport and Physical Training Administration so it will cover the funds for the World Chess Cup. Initially, the Federation would like to call for more funding for Quang Liem and Truong Son but it failed. Therefore, Quang Liem and Truong Son will attend the tournament by the funding committed for the two players in early 2012. The funding for Coach Lam Minh Chau will be paid by Department of Culture - Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City."

Under the sponsor contract signed with the chess federation, Quang Liem is granted with $150,000 and Truong Son with $50,000 within four years (annual allocation) to hire coaches, buy training software and to participate in international competitions.

The World Chess Cup has total bonuses worth $1.6 million. In particular, the players who win a card to the tournament will receive $6,000. The bonus will increase gradually through each round and the champion will have $120,000.
