VietNamNet Bridge – International Grand Master Le Quang Liem stopped at the semi-finals of the 9th Cap d’Agde Rapid Chess Festival in France after being defeated by the current champion Hikaru Nakamura (USA) for 1-3 on October 30.

After defeating Vietnamese player Truong Son in the quarter-finals, Quang Liem was the winner in the first match of the semi-finals with Nakamura Hikaru, the world 15th chess player, the top American player whose elo is 2733, higher than that of Quang Liem – 2694.

The second game ended in a draw. The two players had to play two supplementary matches,  which Quang Liem lost. Nakamura Hikaru entered the finals to defend his championship.

 

After this event, both Quang Liem and Truong Son will go to Guangzhou, China with the Vietnamese national chess team to participate in the Asian Games.

 

The Cap d'Agd Chess Festival’s total bonus is Eur48,000, including Eur16,000 for the champion. The festival will close on October 31. This is the first time Vietnam attends the event.
