Vietnam’s international GM Le Quang Liem (Elo 2706) has maintained his winning streak after six rounds, lifting the trophy of the Webster University – Spice Rapid Invitational in the US.

Liem overwhelmed arch-rivals, including Illia Nyzhnyk of Ukraine Elo 2632), Ray Robson of the US (Elo 2628), and Vitaly Neimer of Israel (Elo 2437), to claim the title.

Notably, in Round 5 he defeated Wesley So of the Philippines (Elo 2755) – one of the top 15 chess players in the world. Despite holding black pieces, Liem took advantage of Wesley’s mistakes, forcing his rival to surrender in the end.

However, the wining result was not used to change the player’s FIDE rating.

Liem will compete at the 2014 SPICE Cup Open sponsored by Webster University and Susan Polgar Foundation.
